A new prestigious achievement for the «Francesco Maurolico» Classical and Choral High School of Messina, which obtained the Absolute First Prize at the XXXII Scholastic Music Festival – «Salvuccio Percacciolo» International Prize of the Municipality of Mirto thanks to the extraordinary performance of the school choir. Yesterday’s success confirms the artistic and educational excellence of the institute directed by the school director Prof. Giannina De Francesco, who has always been committed to the promotion of cultural and musical activities as fundamental tools for educational growth.
The choir led by teacher Silvia Brucini
The choir was directed by the teacher Silvia Brucini, who guided the students with great musical sensitivity and interpretative rigor, obtaining unanimous appreciation from the jury for the quality of the performance and the communicative strength of the proposed repertoire. The coordination work carried out by the prof is also invaluable. Costantino Lauria, who followed the organization of the activities and accompanied the students in an intense and engaging preparation process.
The repertoire: from «Hallelujah» to «I Cento Passi»
The «Maurolico» choir presented a broad and evocative repertoire, capable of crossing different genres, eras and sensibilities: «Hallelujah», «A Mouth Closed», «Gam Gam», «Va’ pensiero», «Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel», «Apple Tree» and «I Cento Passi». Songs performed with artistic maturity, vocal balance and exciting choral participation. The performance of the male and female students won over the public and the judging commission, standing out among the numerous participating schools from different national contexts.

Making the recognition obtained even more significant is the special prize awarded to the choir: the performance at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, an important stage that represents a further opportunity for artistic growth and valorization of the talent of the young choristers of the Messina high school. Great satisfaction was expressed by the entire «Maurolico» school community, proud of a result that rewards passion, commitment and dedication, confirming once again the central role of music in the education of the new generations.
