The ministry has released a 91 million loan which will allow the assistance and research activity of the Bonino-Pulejo Neurolesi Center in Messina to be strengthened. And the negotiations between the Region and Bambin Gesù of Rome are also approaching the finish line to extend the partnership that has managed pediatric cardiac surgery in Taormina so far.
The Evaluation and Verification Unit of Public Investments of the Ministry of Health has given the final opinion to release the 91 million with which the Irccs (scientific hospitalization and treatment institute) Bonino Pulejo, among other things, will renovate the pavilions of the Piedmont hospital which are currently closed and will purchase a “7 tesla” MRI: a very advanced technology of which there are only two other examples in Italy. This is the arrival point of a very long journey, which began in 2018, which allows Bonino Pulejo to strengthen its offer, as President Schifani recalled: «These are long-awaited and decisive works for Messina and for the whole of Sicily which will allow us to modernize hospital structures, strengthen scientific research and improve the quality of healthcare». And councilor Marcello Caruso underlined that «Bonino Pulejo is a reference center in the field of neurorehabilitation, neuroscientific research and technological innovation for the entire regional and national health system».
The leaders of the institute are satisfied and have spoken with the Region over the last two years on a prestigious project that is now ready for construction. Furthermore, the institute recently also received the ministerial decree which confirmed its scientific character following the accreditation inspection site visit. Caruso in the meantime continued to pressure the Bambin di Gesù of Rome to avoid the disengagement, scheduled for June 30, from Taormina. There would be a general agreement to extend the agreement that has so far ensured Roman personnel for pediatric cardiac surgery.
