A perfectly packaged block, containing over 1.2 kilograms of pure cocaine, hidden in the passenger compartment of a rented car. It’s a shame that the “courier” – a man resident in Catanzaro – had hit the road not only with a load worth several thousand euros, but also without a license.
His plans went up in smoke in the late afternoon of May 28, when he ran into a State Police checkpoint. The men of the Catanzaro Police Headquarters Flying Squad blocked his way in Viale Magna Grecia, engaged in one of the many services aimed at repressing drug trafficking and dealing that are combing the area.
The attitude of the driver and, in all likelihood, the anomaly of a rental vehicle driven by a person without a driving license, pushed the investigators to investigate further. The policemen’s intuitions were immediately confirmed during the search of the car: it was enough to open the driver’s side door and inspect the glove compartment to discover the large drug wrapper. The load of cocaine was seized and the man was arrested in flagrante delicto. At the disposal of the Judicial Authority, the doors of the prison in the capital were opened for the Catanzaro citizen.
