“It thundered so much that it rained. Finally, despite the indecent attempts to conceal the facts and hide the pure truth, the concrete risk that the port of Tremestieri will transform into yet another unfinished business in our territory emerges in a clear and incontrovertible manner, as we have been reporting for a very long time. We note, in fact, that in the meantime 7 million euros from the Ministry of Infrastructure are missing to conclude, as per the specifications (seen and revised), the port contract of Tremestieri, at the same time a further financial shortfall of 6.6 million euros is expected linked to the increase in raw material prices. Therefore, to the immense joy of those who work daily to scupper the completion of the port of Tremestieri, the overall deficit is 13.6 million euros, which cannot be an alibi as it requires extraordinary shock therapy coordinated by all the actors involved to avoid a disastrous outcome”, he stated. Ivan Tripodi, general secretary of UIL Messina.

The indictment against Commissioner Di Sarcina and the appeal to Mayor Basile

“One of the stinging aspects of this affair concerns the behavior of the commissioner for the construction of the port of Tremestieri Francesco Di Sarcina, who, also due to the primary institutional role held, should have communicated to the city and the people of Messina the real financial status of the contract for a fundamental work for the future of our territory. As is known, the behavior of commissioner Di Sarcina was completely different, who, childishly attempting to hide from his direct and exclusive responsibilities, was conspicuous by a deafening silence which he also represents a mockery to the institutions that appointed him commissioner for the construction of the port of Tremestieri, as well as commissioner and president of the port system authority of eastern Sicily.

We are at a crossroads: a collective commitment aimed at finding the resources and completing the work or the apocalypse of the unfinished. It is the worst scenario which, however, as Uil we have feared, well aware of the state of the work. We therefore invite the mayor Federico Basile, in his capacity as the client of the work and pending the activities connected to the settlement at Palazzo Zanca, to quickly reconvene the permanent institutional table that met and established way back on 19 January. It is essential that everyone comes out and says, with facts, which side they are on: with Messina and its future or with the enemies of the city who are plotting to demolish the infrastructural prospect represented by the port of Tremestieri. Certainly, we will not stop and we will not be silenced by anyone” concluded Ivan Tripodi.
