It’s only a matter of time, but the fibrillations within the Democratic Party, the usual nerve center of all the tensions of a Center-Left in perpetual existential crisis, are destined to find a point of arrival in the next provincial direction. It has not yet been convened, it is easy to predict that it will only meet after the conclusion of the work of the Central Electoral Office, but there are already many points on the agenda, some, after all, already clear before the vote.
The waste that carries over from the congress two years ago, the deep rift that became evident when the candidate for mayor was identified, the almost never “full” participation in the electoral campaign are some of the elements that will be discussed. And further irons in the fire come from the long social “monologue” of Antonella Russo, who yesterday decided to do her analysis of the vote a week after the result, without sparing heavy barbs.
Antonella Russo’s lunge
For Russo “we need an analysis that looks at all the data and not just those that are convenient”, also because “there are those who already had the match lit in their hands before the electoral campaign even began”. A tough debut, which anticipates the rest: «The truth is that this candidacy was not supported by everyone with the same conviction. The facts say it, an electoral campaign in which too often the name of the mayoral candidate remained in the background, some candidacies concentrated exclusively on their own personal affirmation, silences and absences that it would be hypocritical to pretend not to have noticed”. Yet, the councilor continues, «my candidacy for mayor obtained a greater consensus than that received from the lists. While part of the organized consensus and structural votes was not fully put at the service of the coalition mayoral candidate, many citizens who voted for candidates for the city council from other parties instead decided to place their trust in me; this is why, despite those from within (there’s no point in hiding it) who “rooted for Basile”, I still managed to exceed the vote of the two supporting lists by almost one percentage point.”
