What should have been a normal routine search for weapons turned into one of the most sensational discoveries in Locride in recent years. In Ardore, the police brought to light a sophisticated underground bunker: a true engineering labyrinth, designed down to the smallest detail to ensure the fugitive and escape of members of organized crime.

The operation was conducted by the soldiers of the Operational Unit of the Locri Company and the Ardore Station, supported by the technical excellence of the “Calabria” Helicopter Hunter Squadron and the logistical assistance of the Bianco Fire Brigade.

A hideout engineering: three rooms and a hi-tech trap door

Behind apparently anonymous walls and beneath the floor of an unsuspecting building, investigators found themselves in front of an underground structure built with obsessive care. The bunker, defined by investigators as the most complex and sophisticated ever found in the area, developed into three distinct environments:

A fully equipped bedroom.

A functional toilet.

An “escape room”, the true beating heart of the complex.

What made the refuge extraordinary was the concealment system, worthy of a film set: a very heavy reinforced concrete trap door, totally invisible from the outside, operated by a sophisticated hidden electric mechanism.

The tunnel of freedom: 120 meters towards the countryside

Once the mechanism was activated, the trap door opened onto a narrow underground tunnel. A 120 meter long tunnel, dug entirely into the depths of the ground, which connected the bunker directly to an isolated rural area, guaranteeing a quick escape route protected from prying eyes in the event of a raid by the police.

“We are faced with one of the most sophisticated clandestine structures ever discovered in Locride in terms of compartmentalization of spaces, access systems and architecture” explain the investigators.

Yellow on the user: investigations underway

The site safety and inspection operations required hours of intense work and the coordination of multiple specialized departments.

Once the labyrinth has been dismantled, the biggest mystery now remains to be clarified. The police investigations continue at a rapid pace to give a name to the owner of the property and, above all, to ascertain who commissioned the work and which fugitive found refuge within those underground walls.
