Negotiations planned in Switzerland between Iran and the United States, aimed at reaching an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East, have been postponed indefinitely. The Swiss government announced this a few hours after the cancellation of US Vice President JD Vance’s trip to Lucerne.

“The planned talks between the United States, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan have been postponed. Switzerland remains available to facilitate these talks. The related preparatory work continues,” the Foreign Ministry announced in a message sent to AFP, without specifying a new date for the talks.

The talks between the United States and Iran were scheduled for today at Bürgenstock, near Lucerne. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in particular announced the postponement. “Switzerland remains ready and continues its preparations,” said Nicolas Bideau, spokesperson for the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, quoted by the Keystone-ATS agency. “It remains fully committed to its efforts to promote dialogue,” he added.

Vance will not go to Switzerland to start talks with Iran

US Vice President JD Vance will not travel to Switzerland tomorrow to begin talks on a final deal with Iran. The White House announced this in a statement, after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries which took place the previous day. “Plans for the next technical discussions have not yet been finalized and the US delegation has prepared to leave at the first available opportunity. However, the logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable. For the moment, the Vice President will not leave tonight” reads the note.
