The Court of Appeal of Catanzaro confirmed the sentence, issued in September 2023 by the Court of Castrovillari, with which the single judge had sentenced the FdI senator, Ernesto Rapani, in the first instance for slander, to one year and six months in prison, to pay the court costs and to pay compensation for damages to the offended parties who appeared in court as civil parties. In the first instance sentence the judge, in recognizing the senator’s generic mitigating circumstances, had granted him the conditional suspension of the sentence and the non-mention of the criminal record in the certificate. Rapani, through his lawyer, had appealed the conviction.
