As everything predicted, the first session of the new municipal council turned into a harsh “head-on clash” between the newly elected president of the Assizes Marco Ambrogio and the mayor Antonio Barile. Packed room and audience for special occasions.
All this occurred after the validation of the elected representatives and the oath of the mayor, when after three Ambrogio votes always with the result of 10 votes against the 7 of Marco Gentile (the most voted of the “mister” councilors with 709 preferences at the head of the Forza Italia list), the provisional president of the Civic Council Giovanna Francesca Caruso handed over the seat to the newly elected Ambrogio. And hence the “pitched battle” when the latter claimed jobs, public works, and invited the new executive to make every effort not to miss opportunities. Reasons that all six councilors who support Barile, together with the mayor himself, momentarily left the room with disdain and disapproval. Upon returning there was a “deafening” calm, and while waiting for Barile’s reply, the other interventions by Anna Miliani, who underlined the role of the president of the Assizes (“Guarantor of impartiality”) and by Giovanni Fragale, Giuseppe Simone Bitonti, Marco Gentile, all in the direction of collaboration for the good of the city. Then another “fight” between Enzo Sellaro and Ambrogio, when the councilor “asked” about some clinical tests carried out by evading the ticket in the city hospital, with Ambrogio blocking him “because it was not relevant to the work” and with Sellaro leaving the room admonishing the 9 councilors who had elected him president. In short, a tense session, with Barile illustrating that Ambrogio “is not, nor will he be impartial, because it was not his job to report on the progress of the new Administration”. Subsequently, Mayor Barile gave the Assembly the official status of the new Council: for which he had already produced regular appointment decree 12161 yesterday morning. There are five councilors in total, two internal: Luigi Candalise, 35 years old, entrepreneur and graduate in economics, deputy mayor with responsibility for Tourism, Culture and Public Education; and Giuseppe Belcastro, 64 years old, retired, journalist and graduate in political science with responsibility for Personnel, Social Services and Work. The other three are external (also respecting the “female quota”): Giuseppe Iaquinta, 45 years old, accountant, with responsibility for the Budget and Taxes; Giovanna Straface, 52 years old, lawyer, public manager, with responsibility for Community funds, Productive Activities and Commerce; Annabella Astorino, 57 years old, engineer and Unical teacher, with responsibility for technological innovation and digitalisation and relations with the University. By statute the councilor ceases to be a councillor, so that Francesco Saverio Oliverio takes over Candalise’s place on the Council; while for Belcastro the subrogation recognizes Paolo Spina Jaconis. For the other obligations, another session will be required later.
