Two illegal landfills seized, over a thousand square meters of areas saved from degradation and a lorry stopped while transporting waste without the authorizations required by law. It is the balance sheet of the latest operations conducted by the Metropolitan Police of Messina in the context of services to combat environmental crimes.

The checks involved the territories of Taormina, Savoca and Montalbano Elicona, allowing irregular waste management activities to be stopped through the seizure of areas used for the illicit accumulation of materials and the control of the regularity of road transport.

Two illegal landfills seized between Savoca and Taormina

In the Savoca area, the agents intervened in a state-owned area near the stream, where an uncontrolled deposit of special waste was identified.

During the checks, ferrous scrap, aluminium, plastic, electrical cables and other metal components were found, accumulated without any authorization. The area was seized to prevent the continuation of the illicit activity and to allow further investigations.

A second intervention was carried out in the Taormina area, where checks made it possible to identify another area intended for the illegal storage of special waste. Also in this case the Metropolitan Police proceeded to seize the site.

Lorry seized in Montalbano Elicona

The control activity also extended to the Montalbano Elicona area, where the agents intercepted a lorry used in the transport of waste.

The investigations revealed that the vehicle did not have the authorizations required by sector regulations. For this reason it was subjected to seizure as part of checks on the regularity of the movement of the transported materials.

We will continue with targeted checks in the areas most exposed to waste abandonment phenomena and along the provincial road network.”

Checks set to continue
