The meeting called by Mayor Vincenzo Voce to address the critical issues that are affecting the water service in the municipal area took place this morning in the “Falcone e Borsellino” Council Room of the Municipality.
The meeting had already been scheduled in recent days in consideration of the continuous inefficiencies recorded in the water supply.
During the night, however, the occurrence of a new break in the main water pipe DN 2000, in the same section already affected by a previous intervention, made the discussion between the competent bodies even more urgent.
Coc summoned
Precisely in relation to the new fault, today the mayor also convened the Municipal Civil Protection Operations Center (COC), in order to constantly monitor the evolution of the situation, coordinate the activities falling within the competence of the municipal administration and guarantee operational coordination between all the subjects involved in the management of the emergency.
In addition to the members of the COC, the meeting was attended by Giacomo Giovinazzo, Commissioner of the Reclamation Consortium, Francesco Rocca, Head of Sorical’s Drinking Water Plant Management and Maintenance Sector, Cataldo Calabretta, vice-president of Sorical, Salvatore Sica, delegate of Enel, as well as the technicians involved in the management of the service, with the aim of taking stock of the ongoing interventions and defining a shared path to address the critical issues.
Intervention of technicians
During the meeting it was announced that the technicians of the Reclamation Consortium intervened regarding the damage that occurred last night, reducing the flow of water and repairing the pipeline. At the same time, Sorical has activated the necessary procedures to power the drinking water plant also through water coming from the Sant’Anna reservoir, so as to limit inconvenience for the population.
The completion of the repair work and the start of the gradual reintroduction of water into the network was also confirmed, with the progressive restoration of normal supply.
Commitments
More generally, Sorical and the Reclamation Consortium have undertaken the commitment to intensify monitoring of the water network and to guarantee more timely and punctual communication to both the Municipality and the citizens in the event of breakdowns, planned interventions or emergency situations. The entities have ensured that constant information will be provided on the evolution of the critical issues, on the expected times for restoring the service and on any measures to be adopted, in the knowledge that clear, transparent and timely communication represents an essential element for the effective management of emergencies and for reducing inconvenience to the population.
During the meeting it was also highlighted how the problems recorded in recent days are closely connected to the state of antiquity of the infrastructure. In this context, the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Reclamation Consortium confirmed the commitment to plan, at the end of the summer season, a structural and decisive intervention on the main pipeline, with the aim of preventing the recurrence of similar inefficiencies and minimizing the inconvenience for citizens and production activities.
The mayor also reiterated the need to plan structural interventions on the entire water network, inviting the competent bodies to seize all the opportunities offered by the funding tenders intended for the improvement of infrastructure.
The collaboration of the Municipality
Even though it cannot participate directly in these procedures, the Municipality has expressed its full willingness to collaborate, within its competence, also from a technical and administrative point of view, so that the necessary resources can be intercepted to modernize a network that shows clear signs of age.
The municipal administration will continue to follow the evolution of the situation with the utmost attention, maintaining constant dialogue with all the bodies involved and working to ensure an increasingly efficient water service, coordinated management of emergencies and timely and transparent information to citizens.
