Local public transport and large mobility infrastructures: there is also, or perhaps above all, this on the political scene of the very hot summer in the Region. High-speed rail and State Road 106 on the one hand, reform of the Tpl and update of the Regional Transport Plan (Prt) on the other are the main dossiers open between the Citadel of Catanzaro and Palazzo Campanella, seat of the Regional Council.
Pressing on the tracks
The themes inevitably intertwine, as will happen today in the fourth commission of the Regional Council which has scheduled hearings on the PRT with councilor Gianluca Gallo, the CEO and general director of RFI (in his capacity as extraordinary government commissioner for the strengthening and electrification of the railway network), the representatives of the Touring local club of Reggio Calabria and the College of Railway Engineers. The latter intend to deliver yet another document on the Rome-Reggio high speed, reiterating the now well-known position: starting from the old feasibility study of 2005 and investing in a route that allows the entire route to be covered in 3 hours. And this in light of the declarations of the minister and deputy prime minister Salvini who – regardless of the lack of funds and projects – continues to talk about Reggio-Rome “in 4 hours”. A misunderstanding about the basic concept of “high speed” that probably is convenient for some to maintain: if the 210 km between Rome Termini and Naples Afragola can be covered today in 56 minutes, why can’t we plan to cover the Afragola-Reggio route (417 km) in 2 hours?
