The hearing to validate the arrest issued by the prosecutor against Elvis Metvelaj, the 42-year-old Albanian national believed to be the perpetrator of the murder of Ornella Forastefano, aged 46, who was left dying in front of the Trebisacce hospital and then died due to deep wounds and trauma all over her body, will probably take place today in front of the investigating magistrate of Bari.
The man, the victim’s partner, immediately disappeared and was stopped on Sunday morning by the Border Police, following input from the Carabinieri, in the port of Bari as he was about to leave for his country.
The validation hearing before the investigating judge of Bari
The interrogation takes place in Bari because the arrest was carried out in the Apulian city. After the investigating judge’s decision, the documents will be sent to the Castrovillari Prosecutor’s Office which coordinates the investigations.
Questions still open about the murder
From Metvelaj’s interrogation – assuming he decides to answer – the investigators hope to clarify the still unclear points of the story, starting with the place where the crime was committed. The injuries sustained by the woman lead us to believe that she was brutally beaten but where this occurred is still unclear. Just as the reason for the attack needs to be explained.
The Carabinieri investigators of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Cosenza, of the Compagnia di Cassano allo Ionio and of the Tenenza of Trebisacce – who maintain a strict confidentiality on the matter – are still viewing the images of the video surveillance systems of the hospital area to reconstruct the victim’s last hours backwards and establish whether it was the man who abandoned her in front of the hospital. A piece of data which is probably already in their possession and which could have been included in the police arrest decree.
The autopsy on the body of Ornella Forastefano
Furthermore, the magistrates will have to order the autopsy on the body of Ornella Forastefano which will be carried out by the forensic medicine team directed by Professor Isabella Aquila of the “Dulbecco” university hospital in Catanzaro where the body has already been transferred. An examination that will be able to clarify the exact causes of death.
