The ATP only published the new world tennis rankings today, Friday, to include the results of the Masters 1000 in Montreal; for statistics it will still be the official ranking of August 10th. The numbers certify Jannik Sinner’s 84th week as world number 1, first at 13,450 points. He will certainly remain at the top at least until the beginning of October, or until the ATP 500 in Beijing, where he triumphed last year. Despite the decision to skip Cincinnati, after this Masters 1000 the blue will have 12,800 points: in fact he will lose 650, earned thanks to last year’s final. Carlos Alcaraz, number 2, has 8,160 but will lose the 1,000 obtained last year by winning the title in Cincinnati and then the 2,000 for his triumph at the US Open in 2025. Sinner will therefore only have to watch out for Alexander Zverev, still number 3 ATP, with 8,090 points this week.

Sinner, impossible overtaking at the US Open
The next ranking the German will lose 400, the result of the semi-final in Cincinnati last year. Therefore, by winning the tournament he will be able to add a maximum of 600 points: his score in this case will therefore be 8,690 points, 4,110 less than the blue will have after the Ohio tournament. Therefore, overtaking will be impossible at the US Open, which offers 2000 points. There is no shortage of good news for Italian tennis this week. Italy returns to have four players in the top 20 in the ATP rankings thanks to the exploits of Luciano Darderi who reached the quarter-finals in Canada and moved up two positions, to 20, behind Sinner, Flavio Cobolli, number 10 this week (minus 1), and Lorenzo Musetti, on the 15th step (minus 2).
