The Municipality of Catanzaro takes a fundamental step towards environmental sustainability and the modernization of urban services by applying for a tender funded for a total amount of 1.7 million euros. The initiative, promoted by the Department of the Environment led by Irene Colosimo, aims to prepare the city for the transition from TARI to TARIP (Puntial Tariff), fully implementing the European principle of “the polluter pays”. The project represents the official candidacy of the organisation; in case of admission to the financing, the Municipality will promptly start the construction sites and the foreseen procedures.
The Punctual Tariff Revolution (TARIP)
The new pricing system, which will come into force in the next few years, will overcome the current logic based on the undivided distribution of costs: in the future each user, domestic and non-domestic, will pay the service fee in proportion to the quantity of residual (undifferentiated) dry waste actually produced. To structure the database necessary for the launch of TARIP, the project envisages investments on Line 1 of the tender (for a value of 1.2 million euros) dedicated to:
Installation of 29 eco-islands for separate waste collection
Video surveillance system with 30 anti-abandonment cameras to sanction illicit conduct, protect urban decorum and guarantee respect for the environment and virtuous citizens. Advanced web platform for monitoring and creating an information database on domestic and non-domestic users.
Supply of new sweepers and operational equipment. Two mini electric sidewalk sweepers and other equipment such as photovoltaic energy compacting street bins.
Expansion and adaptation of the Municipal Collection Centre
Line 2 of the tender (equal to 500,000 euros) is intended for the strengthening and adaptation of the Municipal Collection Center located in viale Magna Grecia 59. The interventions include:
The expansion of the area for a further 2,600 square meters adjacent to the current structure.
Paving works, new lighting and water management.
The regulatory adaptation of the center according to the provisions introduced in May 2026 (which provide for adaptation by 2027), including the planting of tree barriers along the perimeter.
