Bad weather in Indonesia, ferry with 243 people damaged: one dead and over 100 evacuated

The Indonesian rescue agency says that contact has been lost with a ferry with 243 people on board: this was reported by the AFP agency, according to which the vessel was sailing from Surabaya to another port “in bad weather conditions”. One person died and over 100 were rescued after a ferry operating between the Indonesian islands of Java and Borneo was hit by bad weather.

«We have made every effort to search for the victims. Some passengers have already been successfully evacuated by teams on site. We can inform you that the total number of passengers evacuated is 103 people,” said I Putu Sudayana, local head of search and rescue operations. However, one of the rescued passengers died, he told reporters in the port city of Banjarmasin, the ship’s destination.
