A mechanical workshop in the municipality of Montegiordano was at the center of an inspection by the Carabinieri Forestry Unit of Oriolo which led to the owner being reported for occupation of municipal land and uncontrolled waste storage. At the time of the check, aimed at verifying the regularity of the activity, carried out in the presence of the municipal technician, the soldiers found the presence of both dangerous and non-hazardous special waste, deposited on municipal land as ascertained by the measurements carried out.

In particular, the presence of a partially open watertight steel tank without safety systems containing used oils spilled on the ground near it was found. Also in the area adjacent to the workshop there was a prefabricated building containing hazardous and non-hazardous special waste, ferrous waste and some end-of-life tyres. Other old ferrous waste was contained in cages adjacent to the prefabricated building as well as a pile of used tyres. The owner had therefore illegally occupied an area owned by the municipality of Montegiordano, using it as an uncontrolled waste dump. These were deposited on natural soil in the absence of waterproofed flooring and management of rainwater and runoff required by law. In addition to the referral of the owner for the crimes described, the military advised the mayor to intervene in order to issue an order to start the clean-up phases.
