The consolidation works of a section of the SP 163/D “Via dei Normanni”, in the municipal area of San Fratello, affected by a subsidence which led to the narrowing of the roadway, have been delivered.

The intervention, for a total amount of 500 thousand euros, is financed within the Complementary Operational Program POC 2014/2020 – Axis 3 and will affect a stretch of approximately 40 metres, located approximately 500 meters from the junction with the SS 289.
The works, coordinated by the sole project manager Francesco Orsi and the works director Bruno Parisi, of the “Viability” Directorate of the Metropolitan City of Messina, directed by the manager Biagio Privitera, are aimed at restoring the safety conditions and partial functionality of the artery.

The collapse affected the downstream side of the road, resulting in a reduction in the passable section. The intervention involves the construction of a retaining wall and rainwater management and drainage works, the restoration of the road superstructure and the correct slopes for the flow of water, the new flooring, the installation of safety barriers and the reconstruction of horizontal and vertical signs.

«Traffic safety represents a priority to guarantee efficient connections and adequate services to communities – declares the metropolitan mayor Federico Basile -. With the delivery of these works we are intervening on a section of the San Fratello road system, improving the safety and stability conditions. The road, as a whole, is however affected by further problems; this intervention will however make it partially passable and guarantee safer transit conditions in the affected section”.

Piraino, the 30 km/h limit comes into effect on SPA 196 between Santa Maria del Lume and Serromaio

Disturbances on the road and conditions that require greater caution: on SPA n. 196, in the Santa Maria del Lume–Serromaio section, the speed limit reaches 30 km/h. The decision is made by the Metropolitan City of Messina, which adopted the ordinance after the inspection by the technicians of the “Road Maintenance – Nebrodi Homogeneous Area” Service.

The investigations highlighted damage to the road surface, also attributable to last winter’s rainfall, as well as the lack of lateral protection works in some sections. Elements that led the organization to adopt a precautionary measure to protect public safety, pending the planned interventions.

The project for the restoration of the most damaged sections of roadway is already being drawn up. The placement of safety barriers in some points and the installation of suitable signs are also planned.

The lateral protections are not mandatory for the type of road, but their provision in the project will make it possible to strengthen the safety conditions in the points identified by the technicians.

The intervention aims to overcome the critical issues identified and improve the practicability conditions of SPA n. 196, an important connection for the districts concerned.
