Sicily is first in Italy for payments disbursed and planned spending under the Development and Cohesion Fund (FSC) 2021-2027. This is what emerges from the analysis of the latest monitoring bulletin. The Cohesion Agreement, signed with the national government in May 2024 but substantially made operational at the end of the same year, assigns Sicily a total budget of almost 5 billion euros, the largest in Italy, destined for infrastructure, environment, water resources, mobility, business competitiveness and services, says the Region.
The official data, as of 30 June 2026, place the island at the top of the national ranking, ahead of Campania and Calabria, both for commitments and payments. «A result – comments the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani – which highlights the efficiency of regional governance in the concrete launch of the established investments. An important acceleration, which made use of the operational and methodological support of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and the excellent work carried out by the regional offices which with commitment and professionalism are transforming FSC resources into open construction sites, works and real services for citizens. The impact of these interventions on the territory is profound and tangible, we are giving concrete answers to the island’s structural deficiencies. We will continue on this path with the same determination to guarantee the development, employment and economic relaunch of all of Sicily.”
In the last year, according to the data provided, a strong change of pace has been recorded in the spending and implementation capacity of the Sicilian Region, with a marked acceleration in recent months. As of June 30, 2026, legally binding commitments reached the figure of 749 million euros, recording an increase of 43 million from April to June, continues the Region. Payments disbursed reached 279 million euros, an increase of 26 million compared to April. Furthermore, during the first half of 2026, there was an exponential growth in active construction sites in the regional territory: the value of interventions with work or supplies in progress almost doubled compared to January 2026, going from 526 million to 857 million euros for a total of 155 interventions. The works already completed have doubled and stand at 12. Estimates foresee reaching around 1 billion euros in commitments by December 2026.
