In the afternoon, the Operations Room of the Maritime District Office of Lipari received a request for assistance via NUE for a health emergency on board a catamaran-type pleasure boat sailing in the waters of Lipari.
On board, a 67-year-old woman had suffered a head injury following an accidental fall and a dislocation of her left shoulder requiring urgent medical attention. The health protocol for the operational procedures for medical assistance in emergency situations was immediately activated – signed at local level between the Prefecture, the Port Authority of Milazzo, ASP Messina and SUES 118 – arranging the exit into the sea of the SAR CP 332 patrol boat in force at Circomare Lipari, with 118 healthcare personnel on board.
Having arrived on site approximately 6 miles from the island of Salina, the Coast Guard crew together with the 118 personnel took steps to transfer the injured person, providing the necessary first aid and proceeding with the safe transfer to the port of Lipari.
The ambulance and the 118 staff were waiting for her on the dock for the subsequent transport to the local hospital for the necessary treatment. The person’s condition, although in pain, would not cause concern.
The intervention concluded successfully thanks to the timely reporting and synergy between the Coast Guard and the Health Service.
