A very long trail of blood, a pain that cannot be erased. Lives broken in the most beautiful moment, when dreams take root. And instead everything disappears into thin air, leaving a void in the families and in those who loved them. Three immense pains in four months, three arrows in the heart of a city that does not want and cannot forget. Riccardo, Giulia and Rebecca: 15, 16 and 17 years old. Three names, three faces, three stories, three deaths that transformed 2026 into a year of mourning and deep reflection for the entire community.
Riccardo Coglitore (15 years old) — 6 June
The first huge tragedy of the series occurred on the evening of June 6, 2026. Fifteen-year-old Riccardo Coglitore, a brilliant student at the Verona Trento Institute, lost his life in a terrible collision that occurred near the Franco Scoglio stadium (in the area between via degli Agrumi and via Guardia). Riccardo was driving his Moto 50 when he collided head-on with a car (a Ford Fiesta). The extremely violent impact threw him from the saddle, leaving him no escape. The news has thrown the entire city and his classmates into despair. The funeral, celebrated in the Cathedral of Messina, saw an immense participation, raising strong questions about the fragile boundary between the desire for independence of teenagers on two wheels and safety on city streets.
Giulia Scimone (16 years old) — 28 June
A few weeks later, the June 28thMessina had to mourn another fifteen year old: Giulia Scimone. The young woman was run over and killed around 11pm in the Peloro / Torre Faro area. Giulia was mowed down by a motorbike at high speed driven by a twenty-year-old, who – as emerged from the investigations and from social media – admitted to posting videos in which he complacently “wheelies” for likes. The driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide. The municipal administration proclaimed city mourning on the occasion of the funeral, while Father Angemi, during the homily he uttered harsh words defining the victim “immolated on the altar of imbecility”a severe reminder to respect the rules and human life.
Rebecca Galli (17 years old) — September 25th
The mourning bulletin was unfortunately updated on September 25, 2026when the young Rebecca Gallijust 17 years old, died in the intensive care unit of the Messina Polyclinic. Rebecca had been the victim of a very serious road accident that occurred the afternoon of the previous day in the new Via Don Blasco. Despite the doctors’ maneuvers and a whole night spent fighting clinging to life, the injuries sustained in the impact proved fatal. The Accident Section of the Municipal Police has started investigations to clarify the exact dynamics of the clash, while the news of his disappearance has rekindled the cry of alarm with desperate force
Reading these stories means dealing with an open wound in the city fabric of Messina. Three very young lives interrupted – Riccardo, Giulia and Rebecca – who leave behind destroyed families and an entire community forced to urgently question itself about road safety, prudence and the inestimable value of human life.
