«How many times have I heard myself told that, just because I am a labor consultant, as a minister I am in conflict of interests with labor consultants. That is, as if to say that we continue to perpetuate the image that, if you have to fill roles of responsibility, you must not have the competence to be able to carry them out.”
Thus, from the stage of the Cilea theater in Reggio Calabria, the Minister of Labor Marina Calderone addresses, without directly mentioning them, the recent criticisms – which appeared in some press outlets and then expressed by the M5s – regarding her alleged conflict of interests. The reference is to a provision in the draft law on competition which, the five-star parliamentarians wrote in a note, “intends to also extend to employment consultants, of whose National Council of the Order Calderone was president from 2005 to 2022, the possibility of filing financial statements with the Companies Register, a faculty currently reserved exclusively for accountants and accounting experts, in accordance with the provisions of law 340 of 2000”. The minister continued, in front of the audience of the national convention of labor consultants, underway in Reggio Calabria: “But do you understand what this means? It really means getting used to what should be the opposite condition, that is, that people who practice a profession, or who have a public role, are capable of carrying it out because they have the competence”, concluded Calderone.
