The long legal case involving the former mayor of Siderno, Pietro Fuda, finds a fixed point in the reasons, filed in recent days, with which the Court excluded the existence of the crime of external complicity in a mafia association contested in the context of an investigation conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office of Reggio Calabria.
The judges deemed no conduct demonstrated that could be qualified as a conscious and concrete contribution to the strengthening of the Commisso gang operating in Siderno. According to the Court, the procedural findings do not allow us to identify the quid pluris necessary to transform any conduct that is reprehensible on a political or institutional level into a criminally relevant form of mafia facilitation. Essentially, there is no proof of a causally effective external contribution with respect to the organisation’s activities and ascertainment of the will to pursue its interests.
According to the accusation, Pietro Fuda, former senator, regional councilor, president of the Province of Reggio Calabria and mayor of Siderno between 2015 and 2018, provided an external contribution to the ‘Ndrangheta, favoring the interests of the Commisso gang through some administrative and political choices.
The judges, however, excluded that the documents reveal a concrete, conscious and causally effective contribution to the strengthening of the criminal organisation.
