Dominant is the most recurring term used to define Marco Marchionni’s Reggina, at least until now. Enthralling can be the other definition of a group that, already in their third home championship match, brought almost 7000 spectators to the “Granillo”. If the hard core has never been lacking, there was and still is a part of the fans who can push the Amaranths further.
There were 6997 spectators to be exact against Igea Virtus, of which 509 were guests. Due to only three units missing, the success against the Giallorossi did not allow us to break that taboo that sees Reggina never victorious when the “Granillo” had over 7,000 spectators (a figure close to sold out according to the organizational plans currently existing, i.e. 7,499).
Considering the last three years of D and the matches of this tournament (a far from glittering era), the audience record continues to be the 7499 spectators of Reggina-Siracusa in 2024-2025 (with 600 guests). In second place is Reggina-Messina in 2025-2026 with 7100 attendances (199 guests, with travel prohibited for residents in the Messina area with a guest sector where there were also amaranth supporters). Reggina-Igea Virtus took third place, overtaking Reggina-Savoia in 2025-2026 (6801 with 600 guests) and Reggina-Milazzo (6510, with 281 guests and 1 euro tickets for students in Curva Sud).
Ten days ago in Lamezia the amaranth fans were many more than the over 700 who had pulverized the tickets in the away sector. However, there is still no news regarding Trapani-Reggina which will be played on Sunday in Capaci, but the match with Vibonese had already been played behind closed doors there.
There don’t seem to be any different prospects, also considering the fact that the Granata will play in the province of Palermo due to the issues that concerned the club and the concession of the Provincial stadium. Since there is a strong rivalry between the Trapani fans and the Rosanero fans (in turn rivals with the Amaranth ones), it seems difficult for a green light to be reached beyond the structural issues.
This does not change Reggina’s objective, called to win also to earn another Granillo dressed up for the next high-ranking clash with Vibonese. For that occasion we could also think about an expansion of the capacity, considering that the failure to sell out against Nuova Igea Virtus can be explained by the fact that there were mainly tickets left at significant costs (almost 40 euros with advance sales for the central stand or almost 80 for the VIP may be a lot for many to see a D match).
Having more space in less expensive sectors (regardless of the opening of Gradinata Est and Curva Nord) would ensure greater popular involvement. The most important thing, however, remains to continue to achieve results so as not to disperse the enthusiasm created.
The next obstacle is Trapani now led by Misiti from Reggio who, in a corporate situation to be deciphered, appears to be recovering after the victory in Ragusa.
