New twist on the intricate story of the undersecretaries. The center-right has presented a regulatory text to repeal the law that reintroduced undersecretaries in the Region.

The group leaders of the coalition have in fact deposited in the Council – with the aim of discussing and approving the text already tomorrow in the Chamber – a bill aimed at canceling regional law 9 of 3 March, through which the majority in office is granted the possibility of appointing two undersecretaries to the Presidency of the Region and of expanding the number, from 7 to 9, of councilors who can be nominated in the Council. At the same time, a further bill was filed which suspends the enforceability of the decree with which the president of the regional council called the referendum on undersecretaries for November 29th.

The 7 million initially allocated for the consultation will be allocated, at least according to what is stated in the report accompanying the proposal, to the measures against expensive diesel, announced by governor Roberto Occhiuto last night.

The two proposals, therefore, will be examined by the House tomorrow. As regards the cancellation of the rule included in the Statute, it is an approval at first reading. For the second approval, the definitive one, at least two months must pass from October 5th. In this period of time the Council of State’s verdict will also arrive on the Region’s appeal against the celebration of the referendum. If it were to be favourable, we would go backwards again and the undersecretaries – certainly the one in charge, Ettore Figliolia – would come back into vogue.

However, if negative news for the Citadel were to arrive from Palazzo Spada, then the approval process for the statutory changes could be completed, undersecretaries and new councilors would be dismissed, and the referendum would be definitively put aside.
