The Calabrian airport system closes the first nine months of 2026 with significant growth in passenger traffic. The positive trend continues in September, with Lamezia Terme experiencing strong acceleration. It is the September data that confirms the positive traffic dynamics recorded during 2026 in Calabrian airports.
In the month, the Calabrian airport system recorded 518,888 passengers, with a growth of 18.6% compared to September 2025. Above all, Lamezia Terme supported the result, which recorded 393,116 passengers in the month, equal to a growth of 23% compared to the same month last year, confirming the strong performance of the airport during 2026. The result of Reggio Calabria was also positive, with 94,909 passengers and a growth of 8% compared to September 2025. Crotone instead recorded 30,863 passengers, with a slight decline compared to the same month last year.
International traffic is increasing sharply: +38.3% compared to September 2025
The contribution of international traffic is also particularly significant, which in September reached 210,977 passengers, up 38.3% compared to September 2025, with 58,435 more passengers. The September result brings the progressive January-September 2026 to 3,818,768 passengers, with an overall growth of +12.5% compared to the same period of 2025. In the first nine months of the year, the strong growth of the international component is also highlighted, which reaches 1,271,941 passengers, an increase of 36.8%. International traffic is therefore confirmed as one of the most characterizing elements of the Calabrian airport system in 2026.
The performance of the first nine months highlights a particularly significant growth in the international component, supported by the expansion of the offer and a greater articulation of the markets served. «The month of September gives us a particularly positive result for the Calabrian airport system, with demand that continues to be strong and increasingly significant international traffic” declares the President of SACAL, Luciano Vigna. “It is a trend that encourages us and demonstrates how interest in Calabria continues to grow even beyond the peak of the summer season. In this scenario, the return of Wizz Air to the domestic segment represents a positive element for the offer and connectivity of Calabria in the winter season, helping to strengthen a path that aims to make our territory increasingly accessible and connected all year round”.
