Eni further reduces the price of diesel recommended to distributors. The new cut is 2 cents per liter and brings the price list from 2.21 to 2.19 euros per litre.

The official ceiling remains at 2.25 euros

The recommended price thus returns to the same level as the first price cap communicated on September 25th. The official price ceiling, as already reported by the company, remains set at 2.25 euros per litre.

Petrol pumps, the voluntary cap is not enough, we need a price cap by law

«Only on the eighth day of the price cap of the thirty announced, the cap, at least on diesel, pops off like a bottle cap». The associations of fuel distributor managers Faib Confesercenti and Fegica report, in a note, limits and distortions of the price cap on fuel on a voluntary basis. «Motorists looking and then queuing at the distributors with the ‘discount’.

Half of the distributors with a ‘good’ price but often without a product to sell due to the limitations of the logistics system; the other half who, for one reason or another, are left with the ‘bad’ price, keep the unsold product. And then protests of all kinds: independent networks and white pumps who complain about the distortion of the market, but also hauliers, farmers, fishermen”, they say in a note. «One thing is beyond doubt: fuel prices must necessarily be contained. This is due to those who fill up and even more so to the fundamentals of the country’s economy. A ceiling, a real price cap, introduced by legislation, with a temporary, proportionate, transparent structure, based on objective parameters and suitable for preserving both supply and the competitive functioning of the market, is the main path”, continues the text.

Faib Confesercenti and Fegica will present their «Proposal for extraordinary intervention on fuel prices – price cap» on the occasion of the Confesercenti Forum 2026, in a press conference on 12 October, at 12, in Piazza del Popolo, in Rome.
