«The solitude in which President Renato Schifani has entrenched himself is leading him to issue statements that are clearly not in keeping with an institution». This was stated by the leader of the South called North Cateno De Luca. «I don’t know if Schifani makes certain statements because he has been notified of the exclusion of his candidacy for the CSM or if he uses them to threaten resignation and obtain other positions.

In any case, it is an internal tussle within the Sicilian centre-right that does not concern me”, he adds. «I remind Schifani that it is possible to go to the vote early with the simultaneous resignation of 36 Ars deputies. Furthermore, the natural expiry of the legislature is scheduled for September and not November as he writes today.” And “if he really wanted to give us this gift and bring us to the natural deadline, I would be happy: we will compete in Sicily on equal terms, without the driving force of the national lists”, he continues. For De Luca «it is simply repugnant to see how, for the umpteenth time, our land is treated as a mere bargaining chip for the careers and personal destinies of some Roman or Palermo politician. For my part, I have long ago given up on any hypothesis of national roles or parachutes, because my only desire is to serve my country. I have a clear objective and, together with the Sicilians, we will succeed: fulfilling the role of Mayor of Sicily.”
