He killed his partner Nataly and tried to make the body disappear by hiding it in a suitcase and throwing it into the river. Almost two years after that day, Pablo Gonzale Rivas, in prison since last February, was sentenced to life imprisonment for aggravated murder and concealment of a corpse by the Assize Court of Milan. A sentence welcomed with applause by Jhoanna Nataly Quintanilla Valle’s friends.
The judges, chaired by Antonella Bertoja, accepting the request of the prosecutor Alessia Menegazzo and the manager of the pool that deals with feminicides Letizia Mannella, also ordered the payment by the man of a provisional amount of 50 thousand euros for each of the civil parties, including an aunt and a cousin. The reasons will be filed within 60 days. «It’s a great emotion. Even if this sentence doesn’t bring her back, justice has been done. She didn’t deserve it”, commented Maira, one of the friends who showed up at the Palace of Justice this morning and displayed some banners including one with the words “stop feminicide”.
«She would be proud of us – added the woman in tears – Maybe we could have been closer to her and maybe this wouldn’t have happened. But we didn’t know anything. He turned out to be different from how we knew him.” Daniely, also with tears in her eyes, said: «We are very happy. Now he can rest in peace and let him pay because no one, least of all Nataly who was so good, deserves to die like this.”
Jhoanna Nataly Quintanilla Valle, 40 years old, was killed on the night between 24 and 25 January 2025, in a studio apartment in Piazza dei Daini, in the Bicocca area. Gonzalez Rivas, her partner, reported her missing seven days later. He had tried to make the body disappear, hiding it in a suitcase which was then thrown into the Adda and recovered over a month later in the river, near the municipality of Zelo Buon Persico, in the province of Lodi. He has always denied the voluntary act and even during the trial he stated that “Jo” had died during an erotic game. Version that prosecutors Menegazzo and Mannella never believed. The autopsy already revealed that the victim had first been beaten and then suffocated.
Furthermore, it was established, also with chat analyses, that Gonzalez Rivas had a parallel relationship and that he had bought a ticket for his lover to come from El Salvador, to make her live in the house where he lived with Nataly. And she had found out. «He tried once again to tarnish her memory – said the lawyer Maria Fufaro, lawyer of the association La scuola di Athens referring to the “lies” of the accused – I want to thank her friends and her employer, without whom the investigation would not have been born. Wonderful friends who didn’t give up.” When Nataly couldn’t be found “they looked for her” and now she has “got justice”.
