«A month ago – he explains – I personally went to the port of Gioia Tauro to check the situation of the containers, which had been detained for months. However, I was not allowed to access the affected area and carry out a direct check. I therefore submitted a formal request for information to Uama, the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for authorizations relating to military materials”.
«In the response received – continues Lucano – Uama communicated that the requests relating to containers are ‘subject of careful study and verification’, in particular with respect to the end user companies and the actual use of the materials».
«An answer that I do not consider sufficiently reassuring», underlines Lucano. «Until the destination and use of these materials is definitively clarified, the risk remains that they could be used for military purposes. For this reason I believe that a timely intervention by the judiciary is necessary, so that the departure of the containers towards Israel is prevented”, he concludes.
