Fraud in public supplies, bid rigging, environmental pollution, unauthorized waste management, theft of seized items and violation of seals. These are the crimes for which the Vibo Valentia prosecutor’s office has closed an investigation which sees the Municipality of Nardodipace at the center with 8 suspects accused of having created illegal landfills into which special and dangerous waste deriving from both urban redevelopment aggregates and private works of the municipal councilor Antonio Tassone who is among the suspects flowed.
The other suspects
The other suspects reached by the notice of conclusion of investigations are Romano Loielo, mayor of Nardodipace, the councilors Andrea Franzè and Salvatore Maiolo, the municipal secretary Maria Vittoria Pastore, the head of the municipality’s technical office Massimo Procopio, the entrepreneur Gianfranco Belviso and the director of works Maurizio Tirone.
The charges
There are six charges in total in the investigation conducted by the carabinieri of the Nardodipace station who discovered three illegal landfills with over two thousand cubic meters of special waste in one case, 1,500 cubic meters in another, three thousand in the third case. The fraud in public supplies reported to the municipal administrators would have allowed the owner of the company carrying out the works to save over 81 thousand euros in costs for the regular disposal of waste. The alteration (auction rigging) of the economic conditions of the contract was also contested, while councilor Tassone allegedly violated the seals of an area subjected to seizure. The mayor of Nardodipace Romano Loielo (a member of the UDC) was re-elected in May 2023. Two previous administrations led by Loielo were dissolved in 2011 and 2015 due to mafia infiltration.
