The challenge of the heart with the opponents’ shirt on your skin. Sunday’s match will be a special one for Luca Garritano. The Cosenza midfielder agreed with Monopoli at the end of his contract with Cosenza. The 32-year-old’s choice fell on the green and whites, after a year and a half spent in the Sila shirt. His second cycle in rossoblù ended in a bitter way and after a good dose of bitter pills. A journey that began with relegation to Serie C and continued with a second part of the season in which they had to settle for a secondary role with Antonio Buscè.
The goals against Casertana and Giugliano after the expulsion at the end of the match against Salernitana, then some time later also against Benevento. Against the Giallorossi, in particular, he showed up from eleven meters to place a very heavy ball on the spot: perfect execution and home victory against the team that would then “kill the championship”. The glory turned into torment only a week later when he twice placed the ball on the penalty spot but on both occasions he was unable to punish Foggia. Then in February, the goal against Cerignola. The season, however, continued without any upheavals and the sensational 5-1 home defeat in the first round of the playoffs last May.
A totally different parable than the one he had dreamed of so many times as a child; he who was born not even too far from “Marulla” and who, before flying to Inter’s youth team, trained many afternoons with Real Cosenza, a few meters from the stadium frequented when football was only the passion of a teenager.
With Monopoly he is now trying to carve out his satisfaction. In the derby against Barletta he returned to the starting line-up almost a month later, suffering from some small physical problems which limited his participation on the pitch. At the “Veneziani” he will face Cosenza for the ninth time in his career. He has already met him on his way wearing the shirts of Chievo Verona (he also scored a goal) and Frosinone, in Serie B.
