The first three new public lighting systems created by the Municipality of Messina as part of the program have come into operation Energy efficiency and redevelopment of public lighting and smart lighting systemsfinanced with funds from the PN Metro Plus and Medium-sized Southern Cities 2021-2027. Intervention C involves a total of thirteen interventions in as many areas of the municipal territory, falling in Districts IV, V, VI and VII, with the aim of improving energy efficiency, service quality and road safety. Yesterday, work was completed on three sites affected by the ongoing program.
In the Scoppo district, in the IV District, the replacement of the old supports, the power line and the lighting fixtures was carried out. The works involved the installation of 28 supports and 34 LED lighting fixtures, the laying of new underground power lines and the installation of a new electrical panel equipped with a remote management system. The intervention introduces a first technological component of Smart Lighting, preparing the system for more flexible and centralized management, aimed at optimizing energy consumption. The LED lamps can also be integrated with connectivity systems to potentially allow the activation of further technological services.
In via E. Ciccotti, in Faro Superiore, in the VI District, a new system has been built along a stretch of road which until now had no public lighting. Six supports were installed with as many highly energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, arranged to ensure uniform distribution of light. The new system, designed for integration with future remote control systems, allows the access road to the Andrea Antonio Donato school complex of the XIX IC Evemero da Messina to be illuminated, improving visibility and safety conditions along the route.
Also in the VI District, in via G. Ungaretti, in the Serri area, a further new generation system was built to improve the lighting and safety of local roads. The intervention involved the installation of seven supports complete with high energy efficiency LED lighting fixtures, placed along the roadway to ensure homogeneous distribution of light. This system has also been designed according to energy saving criteria and is designed for integration with future remote management systems.
“We are carrying out a program of interventions that aims to concretely improve the quality of services in the different neighborhoods of the city. Public lighting does not only concern energy efficiency, but also safety, liveability and attention to the daily needs of citizens”, declared the mayor Federico Basile.
“Intervening in streets and areas that were without lighting or that needed redevelopment means giving concrete answers to the territory, through modern infrastructures and technologies capable of reducing consumption and improving service. The objective is to combine energy saving and reduction of environmental impact with increasingly higher standards of safety and liveability”, added the councilor for Public Lighting Francesco Caminiti.
Added to the three new activations are the redevelopment interventions already completed in via G. Catalfamo and via Pio La Torre, in the V District, and in Calafato, in the VI District. The modernization program of the city’s public lighting network thus continues, with interventions aimed at energy efficiency and the improvement of services in the neighborhoods.
Cardile: «Requested by residents for a long time»
Satisfaction was expressed by the president of the VI District, Sacha Cardile, and by the councilors Francesca Mancuso, Massimo Costanzo, Antonino Biancuzzo and Alessio Pannuccio. «These are two particularly significant interventions, requested for some time by residents, which represent an important improvement for the safety and liveability of the areas involved. Public lighting constitutes an essential service, especially in streets traveled daily by families and citizens and, in the case of via Ciccotti, also used to reach a school complex”.
The president and the councilors thank the municipal administration led by the mayor Federico Basile and the councilor Francesco Caminiti for the interventions to expand and modernize the network. And they indicate the next priority: «We trust in the continuation of the planned interventions, with particular attention also to Salita Calafato, so that we can continue to improve the safety and liveability of our villages».
