The Carabinieri of the Crotone Radiomobile Section arrested a 70-year-old man on charges of possession of narcotic substances for the purpose of dealing.
The arrest occurred during a routine traffic control. The military, after stopping the car, became suspicious of the driver’s unjustifiably nervous attitude. They therefore decided to carry out further investigations, carrying out a personal and vehicular search.
The intuition turned out to be correct: five blocks of cocaine with a total weight of 5.2 kilograms were found in the passenger compartment, hidden inside the central dashboard of the gearbox. An important shipment, which would have yielded huge profits on the illicit market.
After the formalities, the man was transferred to the Crotone prison at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
The operation is part of the constant activities to combat drug trafficking promoted by the Carabinieri to protect local communities. The entire operation took place making use of the fundamental coordination of the Crotone Public Prosecutor’s Office, led by Guarascio.
