Four months after the sentence he declared Simone Caminada unworthy to succeed his life partner Gianni Vattimoshifting the destination of the assets to two second degree cousins, a new heir of the philosopher of weak thought appears. Her name is Rita Vattimo. She is 89 years old, lives in Cetraro (Cosenza) and is a first cousin of the intellectual who died in Turin at the age of 87 in September 2023. The woman, assisted in the legal process by the lawyer Emilio Enzo Quintieri, nephew of the old woman, has already come into possession of the inheritance, including the historic apartment in Via Po.

The newspapers Corriere della sera, Repubblica and Stampa reported it. Quintieri himself, a criminal lawyer at the Paola court, explains the relationship. «Rita Vattimo is the daughter of Michele Vattimo, brother of Raffaele, the philosopher’s father. Vattimo is of Calabrian origin: Gianni’s father was a prison officer and was transferred for work in 1925 to the Turin prison. In 1926 he married Rosa Richiero, Gianni Vattimo’s mother, who was originally from Pinerolo, in Turin. His brother instead chose to stay in Cetraro”, adding that his grandmother Rita was unaware of the existence of the two cousins, who were briefly recipients of the inheritance, and they of her.

Having provided proof of kinship, the lawyer found himself in front of the intellectual’s apartment, but without his clothes, “which Gianni Vattimo wanted to leave as a charity to the church of San Filippo Neri”, as well as watches, paintings and other precious objects and even “Fidel Castro’s notebook”. However, what remained were the many books, which the heiress intends to donate to the university’s Philosophy department, hoping for the naming of a classroom in honor of her philosopher cousin, or to Barcelona, another university with which Vattimo had close relationships.
