The Carabinieri of the Cirò Marina Company arrested a 44-year-old businessman from Strongoli in flagrante delicto for possession for the purpose of dealing drugs, possession of an altered weapon and a clandestine weapon, numerous ammunition, as well as for aggravated theft of electricity.
Suspicious of the unusual movements noticed near the home of the suspect, already known to the military, they decided to intervene with the support of the Batik dog, a canine unit of the Carabinieri Canine Unit of Vibo Valentia, and to carry out a search aimed at searching for weapons and narcotic substances.
The activity, right from the start, gave a positive result, allowing the military to identify a real cache of illicit material. In fact, in a room adjacent to the subject’s home, and in its exclusive possession, approximately 4 kg of marijuana in heat-sealed bags, approximately 100 g of cocaine – most likely uncut, and therefore of enormous economic value – and approximately 30 g of hashish, as well as other modest quantities of the substance already divided into doses, were found.
In addition to the drug market, however, the warehouse also contained a small arsenal: a gun altered using a CD silencerwith 69 rounds of ammunition, and a revolver with abraded serial number, with 15 rounds. The Carabinieri, again, with the help of technical verification personnel, also charged the man with the crime of aggravated theft of electricity, given the presence of a bypass system that allowed him to elude the measurement of consumption. The doors of the Crotone prison were therefore opened for the man at the disposal of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, directed by Domenico Guarascio.
