Moments of terror last night along the highway A20 Palermo – MessinaFor the fire of a car inside the Calavà Gallery. Miraculously unharmed was a man from Sant’Agata Militello who was driving his Chevrolet Captiva towards Messina when, for reasons to be ascertained, he noticed smoke coming out of the front. The man had time to stop and move away from the car before it caught fire. The emergency services were immediately alerted, and the intervention of a patrol of the Sant’Agata Militello Traffic Police was particularly prompt, on control duty right in the vicinity of the Calavà tunnel.

The police promptly set up safety measures to avoid problems for the vehicles arriving, establishing the mandatory exit at Brolo in the direction of Messina. The firefighters who arrived on site then put out the fire and made the area safe, while the emergency road intervention teams worked to remove the vehicle and restore the motorway section. Shortly after 9pm the transit was therefore reopened.
