In Leni the man of the people won. The mooring man Ireneo Giardinello he won the most important seat in the Municipality, beating the lawyer by just 15 votes Claudio Rugolo. 198 for Giardinello, while Rugolo stopped at 183. In the Council the new mayor will have the majority with 7 councillors, while three will be the representatives of the defeated mayoral candidate. Giardinello, 62 years old, a full-blooded islander, married and father of three children, boasts considerable political experience. For twenty years he has carried out political activity in the municipal building and in the last three council meetings he has been president of the council. He has already designated three councilors (Gaetano Lo Po, Michele Pettorino and Giuseppe Scaffidi, who will also hold the role of councillor) and will shortly complete the council with the pink quota. Visibly emotional, last night he thanked the islanders for their trust and the regional deputy Alessandro De Leo who – he said – “supported me in this electoral competition”.
