In Ukraine, the protective dome of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is no longer safe after being damaged by a Russian drone last February. This was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the basis of an inspection conducted last week. According to the same source, the protective structure of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, completed in 2019 to contain radioactive material after the 1986 disaster, can no longer perform its main function due to damage caused by a Russian drone.
“The inspection confirmed that the facility lost its key safety components, including containment capability, but also found that no permanent damage was caused to its monitoring systems,” said the IAEA Director General,
Rafael Grossi.
