Cub Trasporti, and other grassroots trade union organizations, have called a 24-hour national strike for the airline-airport-related sector for Friday 8 September 2023, which will involve ground staff. The abstention from work is for the renewal of the contract which has been awaited for six years. The unions contest the proposals “of inadequate salary increases, the increase in working hours without sufficient economic adjustment, the reversal of part of the proposed increases in favor of private social security and healthcare institutions”.
«The wage increases are inconsistent – says Cub Trasporti -. Given a contractual validity of 10 years, and a salary loss in reference to the cost of living of 400 euros per month, a total of 250 euros is proposed and spread over three years. Instead of canceling the 24 incremental hours granted in the previous contractual renewal, an increase in hours to 38.5 hours per week will be formalized without any economic adjustment”. Finally «from the amount of the expected salary increases, funds will be transferred to finance sector healthcare, managed by bilateral union/company bodies which will be donated to companies in the sector, subtracting from the pay slip in favor of private companies and working conditions in airports have significantly worsened and there is the risk of an increase in broken hours, overtime, uncontracted availability”.
Due to the strike of workers in the airline sector and handling companies on Friday 8 September, Ita Airways cancels 30 domestic flights. This was announced on the company’s website, which informs that it has activated an extraordinary plan to limit passenger inconvenience, rebooking as many travelers as possible affected by the cancellations on the first available flights. 55% will be able to fly on the same day as the strike. Ita Airways invites all travelers who have purchased a ticket for the day of the strike, to check the status of your flight before going to the airport. In the event of cancellation or change to the time of their flight, they will be able to change the booking without any penalty or request a refund of the ticket (only in the event that the flight has been canceled or has been delayed by more than 5 hours) no later than no later than September 13, 2023.
