State Police checks in the places of summer nightlife on the Tyrrhenian side of Messina. In recent days the checks have affected the areas of Patti, Sant’Agata di Militello and Capo d’Orlando: the toll includes fines for thousands of euros, several owners referred to the Judicial Authority, the supply of alcohol to minors under 16 years of age and a place caught with more than double the number of customers allowed.
The policemen of the respective public security police stations took part in the operations, together with the Carabinieri and the Financial Police, with the technical assistance of the Fire Brigade, the Sian (Food and Nutrition Hygiene Service) and the ARPA. The checks involved beaches, discos, hotels and other meeting centers during the busiest time slots.
Between Patti and Oliveri fines of up to 9,500 euros and alcohol for minors
In Patti and Oliveri, in two of the premises checked, hygiene deficiencies, problems in product traceability and the absence of controls against pests emerged. For these irregularities, administrative sanctions were imposed for maximum amounts of 5,000 and 9,500 euros and the two legal representatives were referred to the Judicial Authority for attempted commercial fraud. In one of the two activities, irregularities in the hiring and training of staff were also found.
The Fire Brigade detected the failure to revise the fire-fighting devices and insufficient signaling of the emergency exits, imposing requirements on the electrical system, on the adaptation of the fire-fighting devices and on the internal signs of the emergency exits. During the same inspection, the administration of alcoholic beverages to minors under 18 years of age – with a fine of 333 euros – and to minors under 16 years of age was ascertained, a circumstance which led to the owner being referred to the Judicial Authority. Further checks are underway which could lead to the proposed suspension or termination of the licence.
Sant’Agata di Militello, a place without a license and fire prevention deficiencies
Also in the area of Sant’Agata di Militello a commercial establishment was sanctioned for the supply of alcohol to minors under 18 years of age. In another structure the absence of a license for dancing entertainment was found, with the owner being referred to the Judicial Authority. In two rooms the Fire Brigade ascertained the lack of fire-fighting workers and violations of safety regulations in the workplace, which will lead to the elevation of the related sanctions at the end of the investigations.
In Capo d’Orlando a place with more than double the capacity
In the Capo d’Orlando district, the checks involved a total of six public businesses and revealed violations of noise emissions – with the night-time noise limit in residential environments being exceeded – food safety and the occupation of public land. In one facility, food safety violations led to the owner being referred for attempted commercial fraud. In another case it was ascertained that the number of customers allowed was exceeded by more than double: the legal representative was reported to the Judicial Authority for non-compliance with the license requirements. Also in this area the Fire Brigade detected violations of fire regulations.
Further similar checks are planned to protect the safety and security of customers, as well as the rights of resident citizens.
