Nordio: “Part of the opposition reluctant to mention Almasri to the prosecutors”
«I am satisfied because the result went even further, numerically, than the expectations of the parliamentary majority: this means that even on the part of some of the opposition there is a reluctance to entrust the public prosecutor’s offices with powers that should be purely political». Thus the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, in Transatlantico, having just left the Chamber after receiving the Chamber’s no to the trial on the Almasri case.
Bignami; “15-20 francs opposition shooters”
Among the opposition there would have been “around 15-20 snipers” in the vote with which the Chamber denied the authorization to proceed in court against the ministers Carlo Nordio and Matteo Piantedosi, as well as the undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Alfredo Mantovano for the Almasri affair. This is supported by the group leader of the FdI in Montecitorio Galeazzo Bignami, observing the vote tabulation in of which 251 deputies voted to reject the authorization for Nordio and Mantovano, and 256 (including those of Italia viva, as announced in the Chamber by the group leader Davide Faraone) for Piantedosi. «We are 242 in the majority, there were some absent, so we had calculated to reach 235 – explained Bignami speaking to journalists in Transatlantico -. Not only have we demonstrated that there was all the unity of the majority, but also that members of the opposition voted against the authorization to proceed. In the first Republic they would have been called snipers. If I were a less conversant member of the opposition, I would have some doubts. We are happy.”
