The government, in the Council of Ministers yesterday, allocated, on the initiative of the Minister for Civil Protection and for the policies of the sea, Nello Musumeci, 17 million euros to finance interventions relating to a state of emergency that had been caused by the strong floods that from 19 to 21 October 2024 had hardly hit some municipalities of the Catanzaro area, including Lamezia Terme, and of Reggio.
These resources are added to the 4 million and 250 thousand euros allocated in the days just following the calamitous events of October for the implementation of the first interventions, to be worth on the fund for national emergencies, with orders of the head of the Civil Protection Department.
In addition, with the resolution approved by the Council of Ministers on 4 June, the executive allocated 10.5 million euros to face the water emergency which hit numerous municipalities in the area in September 2024.
An intervention that was added to the approximately 6.9 million already made available by the government at the beginning of the emergency.
“I thank the Meloni government and the Minister for Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci – says the president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto -, who once again demonstrated great sensitivity and attention to Calabria, quickly allocating almost 39 million euros both for the damage relating to the floods of last October and for the water emergency that has invested many territories in the summer of 2024.
These are extraordinary interventions that once again demonstrate the proximity of the executive towards our region.
The goal, as always in these cases, is to use these resources to give concrete support to the communities concerned and allow the realization of residual risk reduction interventions.
We will continue the work of technical comparison with the National Department of Civil Protection, with which there is a relationship of close and profitable collaboration.
Finally, I thank our regional department and its general manager, Domenico Costarella, for the precious work done in the context of an intense preparatory activity, which has allowed to achieve these important results “, concludes the governor Occhiuto.
