It ignites the imaginations of athletes and fans around the world. It is the time of great stories, those made of sacrifice, discipline and daily passion. The path of Luigi Attanasio, 19 years old, from Cosenza, one of the most interesting profiles of Italian youth alpine skiing, fits into this scenario.
His is not an Olympic eve, but that of an athlete who continues to build, day after day, a solid and ambitious career. From February 10th he will be involved in the Italian Youth Championships on Mount Zoncolan, an important event and natural stage in a journey already rich in technical content and results.
A talent grown between snow and sacrifices
Attanasio is an authentic talent. On the track his skiing is harmony and power, a precise dance between the gates, with a recognizable style and an athletic presence that does not go unnoticed. He literally grew up on bread and snow: his father, a ski instructor, introduced him from a very young age to an environment that became home for him.
Always a member of the Settecolli Cosenza Ski Club, he has trained steadily outside Calabria since childhood, clocking up kilometers on the slopes of Roccaraso since he was seven, often even three times a week, driven by a constant motivation: to improve every day.
The results did not take long to arrive. In the 2023-2024 season he won two silver medals in Super-G and combined at the Italian Championships, as well as a fourth place obtained by competing under age. Added to these placings is the call-up to the Italian representation for the international final of the Pinocchio Ski Trophy, one of the most prestigious events on the world youth scene.
A high level technical project
From a technical point of view he grew under the guidance of Andrea Barulli and today he is followed by the team of Corrado Castoldi, a coach considered a guarantee in national skiing circles. Athletic training is entrusted to Simone Lo Bianco and Giorgio D’Urbano, Alberto Tomba’s historic former trainer, a detail that reflects the level of work that accompanies his growth.
Even on an international level the signals are clear. In the Youth category Attanasio has already achieved several podiums, with five gold medals obtained in South America, between Chile and Argentina, confirming solidity and competitiveness even outside national borders.
His journey does not go unnoticed: today he is among the athletes observed by the Italian national team, a sign of a potential that looks beyond the present. Medals represent only part of the journey; what is really striking is the continuity, maturity and quality of the sporting project that accompanies it.
Today Luigi lives in Bormio, breathes skiing every day and continues to raise the bar. Consistency, commitment, dedication and class are its foundations. The Italian Championships on the Zoncolan are just another step: the journey, the real one, is already well underway.
