There were hours of anguish this afternoon for the entire Nepeto community who, from 3pm onwards, gathered around a local family, waiting for good news on the health conditions of their four-year-old son, victim of an agricultural accident which occurred on board a tractor.
The dynamics of the accident
According to the reconstruction provided by the police, and obviously being verified, the events took place in the border area between via Catocastro and via Dogana, in the northern area of Amantea. For reasons yet to be understood, the child, who was in his parent’s arms on a tractor, freed himself from his father’s secure grip and then fell to the ground, at the exact moment the vehicle’s wheels passed. Considering the age of the child and the size of the vehicle, those who witnessed the scene promptly asked for help. And the rescue machine was activated, with the 118 staff requesting the intervention of the air ambulance for an emergency transfer to the civil hospital of Cosenza.
A true miracle
From what we know, the child would always have remained lucid: probably the soft ground, perhaps already clodded, could have made both the impact and the passage of the wheels soft. The occurrence of all these circumstances, which in the city not only among family and friends caused a miracle, would have made the clinical picture much less complicated than it could have been. In fact, thanks to the help of the helicopter, the child was promptly subjected to the necessary checks which would have returned an overall picture aimed at cautious optimism: there were no serious injuries. The next few hours will be decisive in resolving a prognosis which, in relation to what happened, could have been much more dire.
