Seized by the Fiamme Gialle approx 150 kilos of pure cocaine in the context of the safeguards to contrast transnational illicit trafficking within the port area of ​​Gioia Tauro prepared by the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria, under the coordination of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate – Public Prosecutor’s Office of Reggio Calabria directed by Dr. Giovanni Bombardieri.

In particular, among 1,000 containers from the South American continent aboard a commercial ship, in service on the route that passes through Panama and then reaches the port of Gioia Tauro, the soldiers of the Guardia di Finanza managed to identify the skillfully concealed narcotic substance in a container loaded with bananas. The cocaine, coming from the port of Turbo in Colombia, was found to be of the purest quality and could have been cut by drug traffickers up to 4 times before being placed on the market, making money for crime an income of over 30 million euros.

“I want to express my sincere appreciation for the determination with which the judiciary and the police force are working, obtaining important results like the one achieved today, in the fight against drug trafficking”. The interior minister said, Matteo Piantedosi, with reference to the operation carried out today by the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria, with the coordination of the local Anti-Mafia District Directorate, which led to the seizure of 150kg of cocaine in the port of Gioia Tauro. «The fight against drugs – he continues – represents a priority in our government activity, carried out thanks to constant action to contrast the criminal organizations that manage drug trafficking and drug dealing squares.
