A new seizure of weapons and explosives in the Gioia Tauro plain carried out by the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria. They had been hidden in an anonymous industrial warehouse.
An arsenal in an anonymous warehouse
After the huge seizure of recent days, the Reggio financiers have intensified their searches and searches in the same area, finding, a short distance from the land where the previous arsenal had been discovered, a shed inside which they found around 5,000 rounds of ammunition, two pistols, a machine gun, a hand grenade, a homemade bomb, two blocks of plastic explosives and a remote-controlled system for govern the detonation remotely.
Two red-handed arrests
The service activity also led to the flagrant arrest of two individuals caught inside the aforementioned warehouse while they were guarding the armaments. One of those arrested was also found in possession of around 5,000 euros in cash, which was also seized.
The origin of the weapons is being investigated
Investigations are underway to ascertain the methods of acquisition and supply of the same weapons and ammunition, which could also have occurred through foreign traffickers or through the use of dedicated channels made available on the internet.
The kidnapping
Overall, during the two operations, three machine guns, a submachine gun, 15 pistols, 5,000 cartridges, a homemade bomb, two blocks of plastic explosive, a remote-controlled system to control remote detonation and a hand grenade were seized. The compiled documents were sent for validation of the seizures to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Palmi, directed by Emanuele Crescenti.
