There is another planet around the Sun-like star TIC 393818343300 light years away. The first planet, a gas giant similar to Jupiter, was detected about four months ago and again this time the discovery is due to the Italian amateur astronomers Giuseppe Conzo and Mara Moriconiboth from the Palidoro Astrophile Group. The two have collaborated with Toni Scarmato of San Costantino, Briatico (Vibo Valentia); with Nello Ruocco, of the Nastro Verde Observatory in Sorrento and with the Americans Nicholas Leiner and Kyle Lynch, of the Johnston Community College in Smithfield (North Carolina). The new exoplanet, indicated with the acronym TIC 393818343, is described on the arXiv platform, which welcomes research awaiting scientific review. It is similar to Neptune and orbits very close to its star, at a distance about 2.05 times closer than the first planet in the system, TIC 393818343 b. One orbit takes approximately 7.85 days to complete. «It’s really fascinating», say the amateur astronomers commenting on the discovery, possible thanks to the collaboration between professional and amateur astronomers. They worked together using techniques such as transit photometry, which allows them to detect and measure changes in the brightness of a docute star as another body passes against its disk. What ignites the enthusiasm is the fact that the presence of the new planet “confirms that the TIC 393818343 system is a multi-planetary system, which opens up the possibility of further studies to identify other planets or peculiar characteristics”, notes Conzo. The discovery therefore suggests that the system may be even more complex than initially expected, opening up the possibility of further studies to identify other planets or peculiar features.
