Colors and loud music to “wake up” the community on social and legal issues that still remain to be addressed. The Strait Pride rainbow procession left shortly after 6pm from Piazza Antonello towards Piazza Unione Europea. In the context of a traveling party, the event offered various themes of reflection on parenting and equal opportunities, also looking at the laws that have been implemented outside Italy. It is no coincidence that this year’s slogan was “On the path of rights”: a phrase that looks to the future with confidence, in a present characterized by many political clashes that arise from different “visions”.
The event was organised, with the support of the municipal administration, by the «Stretto Pride» committee and by Arcigay Makwan Messina. A now usual event for the city, which this year saw the participation of hundreds of people.
The president of Arcigay Makwan, Rosario Duca, gets to the heart of the issues: «With pride – he declared – we want to shine the spotlight on important times, albeit in an atmosphere of fun. What’s missing today? The right to assisted procreation is missing, true marriage is missing, the recognition of trans people is missing. Some people think that the law on civil unions has settled everything, but this is not the case. We still have to fight – added Duca – and we will always do so until the results are achieved.”
