The toll from the serious road accident that occurred this morning along the Ionian state road 106, in the municipality of Crotone, is one dead and one injured. The victim was a young man from Cotronei, a municipality on the slopes of Sila, who was traveling aboard a large-displacement motorbike together with his twin brother, who was injured.
The accident occurred near the crossroads for the hamlet of Papanice, where the motorcycle was involved in a violent impact, it is not yet clear whether independently or with another vehicle. The fact is that one of the two brothers lost his life, while the other was injured and was rushed to Crotone hospital.
The firefighters of the Crotone provincial command and the 118 health workers intervened on site and provided first aid in particularly difficult conditions. The injured man was immobilized on the spot before being transferred by ambulance to the city hospital. For the other young man, however, despite the desperate resuscitation attempts made by the medical staff, there was nothing that could be done.
Traffic police officers also intervened at the site of the tragedy, carrying out surveys useful for reconstructing the exact dynamics of the accident, and Anas personnel, who managed the traffic and made the area safe. The section of state road 106 affected by the accident was temporarily blocked in both directions, with long queues and slowdowns. Only yesterday afternoon another serious accident occurred on state road 106, just a few kilometers further south, where three cars collided: two people were seriously injured and transported to Crotone hospital where they are still hospitalized.
